About

A Little About Me

Hello! My name is Tina Gillems, LCSW.  I have provided therapeutic services since 2014 with 20 years of overall Social Work experience. I have worked extensively with children, families, individuals, and with medical social work, helping clients navigate a wide range of personal and professional challenges. I am licensed in FL  TX, NJ,  D.C., WA, MA, CA, AR, and AK.

My expertise includes helping individuals struggling with self-discovery, communication, and boundary-setting. I also specialize in anxiety, depression, identity and cultural/ethnic issues, grief and bereavement, family dynamics, anger management, ADHD, stress management, relationship concerns, and many more.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered and integrative, drawing from Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Brief Dynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). I strive to create a supportive and empowering space where clients can gain insight, develop coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change in their lives.

Key Areas of Focus

In addition to providing the services mentioned above, I also like to devote time to providing services within communities that are often underserved, whether it’s sports, the LGBTQ community, or in minority communities where mental health often takes a back seat to other problems.

As a former college and semi-professional athlete, I understand the unique pressures of competitive sports, including performance anxiety, identity struggles. I also recognize the challenges of life after sports and how stepping away from competition can impact mental health, self-identity, and overall well-being. The transition from being an athlete to navigating a new path can be overwhelming. I am passionate about helping individuals rediscover purpose, build resilience, and adjust to life beyond sports.

Additionally, I understand the pressures that can come from family and friends who may feel entitled to one’s success. This can create feelings of guilt, obligation, and emotional strain. I work with clients to develop healthy boundaries, assertive communication skills, and strategies to maintain personal well-being while navigating these complex relationships. Learning to prioritize one’s mental health without guilt is crucial for long- term success and emotional stability.

For individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, I’m deeply committed to providing a safe, affirming, and inclusive space where they can be their authentic selves and express themselves in a manner that brings about positive growth. I help clients explore identity, navigate unique challenges, and express themselves freely without fear of judgment.

My Commitment to You

Overall, I am dedicated to helping individuals find balance, build resilience, and navigate life’s complexities with confidence and clarity. I look forward to working with you on your journey toward healing and growth.

Together we will get you back in this game of life.
